In your course, go to the Grades page and select the link for Settings. There are 3 tabs of settings, go to the Org Unit Display Options and you'll find a section under there called Student View Display Options. These settings set what a student would see on their Grades page. Points grade would be the total number of points they received out of the total number of points available for the grade item. Grade scheme symbol would be a percentage or "A", "B", etc. depending on which Grade Scheme your course is using. If you are using Weighted Grades, then there will be an additional option for the weight received as well.
