Associating a Pass/Fail grade item with Discussion

I want to create a Pass/Fail 10 point discussion. I created the grade item first, so that I can make it pass/fail instead of numeric. When I created the discussion topic and assigned a point value and tried to link to existing, the "link to existing" option is greyed out and says that there are no items to link to. Why is this happening?

@Alexandra.S.535 Hi Alexandra, only Numeric items can be associated with Discussion topics. You could just give students 0 points for fail and 10 for pass, and then create a grade scheme and apply it to that grade item so that the words Pass and Fail appear in the grade book for students.
