Re: September 2026/20.26.09 Release Notes
@Greg.F.351 This is a fantastic workaround! I just tested it, and it works like a charm!
We're in that same boat with more complex completion requirements. We even used the ETOC with completion tracking for a full term, so this comes from learned experience rather than just a hypothetical. Ultimately, we switched back to the original version before learning that it would become the default with no opt out.
Just a couple of examples… our students are required to earn 70% or higher and are allowed multiple attempts. Even though quizzes and assignments are labeled as "attempted" or "submitted" rather than "complete," this still caused confusion. We also have LTI links to quizzes/exams and those items would be marked as complete simply because the student clicked the link, even though they had not achieved the required score.
I will be crossing my fingers with you that the September release doesn't break this workaround!

Reporting and Data Sets for Createspace
We just got Createspace adn I was lettign our Instructionla design team know about it.
Looking at he Documentation fro administrators on the Community site under Createspace > About > Technical considerations for administrators the first bullet point says: "Reporting and Data Sets: Createspace uses a unique organization unit type for modules and objects created within the library. This may impact organizational reporting and Brightspace Data Sets (BDS)."
Notice here is says, "Createspace uses a unique organization unit type for modules and objects created within the library." No example or other information is give regarding this. What "organization unit type" is used? When I look at the Organizational Units data sets infomration, nothing is said about a new type of which type is used for Createspace items.
There is nothing in the release information about this either, at least not that I saw.
How are we supposed to know what "type" is a Createspace object?
Navigating Away and Back to Content - Not Holding Previous Location
I have a faculty member who noticed in NCE that when they navigate away from Content (say, over to grades) and then select Content again, it no longer goes back to where they were in the Content.
"In the new version of D2L, whenever I open Content, it takes me back to the beginning of the table of contents. In the old version, it took me back to where I left off. Is there any way to have that function restored?"
I've not found a solution in the Community boards.
Selectbox/Turnitin
I see that we can now edit existing assignments to change them to Selectbox grading. This is a welcome update.
Can new Turnitin assignments be created with Selectbox grading item type?
Re: Brightspace Dataset - H5P
Hi,
Thanks for reaching out! I can confirm that there is currently no dedicated H5P Brightspace Data Set (BDS) available in Data Hub. The Content data sets also do not include H5P-specific interaction data at this time.
Warm regards,
Re: Multiple Items in a single deep linking response not working
Thank you for the follow-up, and we’re glad to hear that Deep Linking QuickLink resolved the issue with adding multiple content items in a single response.
Regarding custom parameters not appearing in the ID Token for the Deep Linking QuickLink placement, we can investigate this on our end. Since the parameters are present when using Insert Stuff but not QuickLink, this may indicate a platform-level discrepancy. Regarding the Brightspace JWK URL becoming intermittently inaccessible, this is not expected behavior. As an immediate workaround, we recommend implementing a short retry with backoff in your signature validation logic. Could you please create a Support case with us so that we can investigate both issues further? If possible, please include the affected keyset URLs and any relevant request or response logs.

Re: Service-to-service authentication?
Hello Randall,
Yes. Brightspace now supports server-to-server authentication for API integrations using OAuth 2.0 Client Credentials grant with Client Assertion (Private Key JWT).
Brightspace documentation states:
“Brightspace supports server-to-server API authentication using the OAuth 2.0 Client Credentials grant with Client Assertion (Private Key JWT). This model lets trusted integrations call Brightspace APIs without user interaction while protecting sensitive LMS data.”
Documentation: Register an OAuth2.0 application for server-to-server authentication - Brightspace
The same article also notes that server-to-server authentication is available only for OAuth 2.0 applications associated with a Service User, and that a dedicated non-human Service User should be used with least-privilege permissions.
Brightspace also documents Service Users as non-human identities designed for machine-to-machine workloads. The Service Users article states that Service Users and OAuth 2.0 Client Credentials with JWT Client Assertions “enable secure access to APIs without user prompts, browser redirects, or refresh tokens.”
Documentation: Service Users and server-to-server authentication for Brightspace - Brightspace
At a high level, the documented setup is:
- Create a dedicated Service User.
- Assign only the required org unit access and permissions.
- Register an OAuth 2.0 application with Client Credentials as the grant type.
- Provide a JWKS URL.
- Configure the required scopes and access token lifetime.
- Link the Service User to the application.
- Exchange a signed JWT client assertion for an access token.
- Call Brightspace APIs using the access token in the
Authorization: Bearerheader.
The developer documentation also confirms that Client Credentials applications use JWT client assertions to identify themselves to the Brightspace authentication service.
Developer documentation: OAuth 2 authentication — Developer Platform (June 2026)
This is the documented path for machine-to-machine Brightspace API access and avoids the older refresh-token keep-alive pattern used for delegated user-based OAuth flows.
Re: Has anyone used an API to manage Special Access?
Hi Mary,
Thank you for reaching out to us through community.
Currently, there isn't a Bulk action way to update special access for activities across the courses.
We appreciate your feedback and have identified this as a feature request. I have found an existing PIE idea for the similar request https://desire2learn.brightidea.com/ideas/D9160
As you deem appropriate, kindly leave your comments and promote this idea.
The Product Idea Exchange is designed for direct submission by our clients and end users to our Product Development organization and has the following advantages:
• allows you to receive direct updates on each request you submit
• allows other community members to vote on ideas
• allows other community members to contribute to and collaborate on each idea
