@Rob.P.213
WE ARE SO GLAD YOU'RE HERE!
Your question and post are PERFECT exactly as they are and we are grateful to you for putting it out there!
I know there are going to be other folks who will have the exact same question, and probably a few who'll add some other recommendations here too!
There are some really cool things you can do in Brightspace to jazz up the presentation of learning material!
Many schools will offer a tool called Creator+ which makes it easy to add activities, and style to your learning material.
This article provides some more information on what Creator+ is and connects you with a course where you can see how it works and how it looks if you give it a try
Sometimes other Educators will share back what they're doing with Brightspace and there are a few examples I can show you like this one which includes ideas for activities you can add to Brightspace without Creator+, like wordle style activities and other fun games
This example shows a few ways Creator+ can be used to make the learning material more engaging and fun (while keeping accessibility in mind) & it also uses Brightspace Awards which everyone has access to
Let me know if I've missed the mark though and if it happens that you're looking for different kinds of information/examples.

Re: Quiz Page Breaks
As I stated in the PIE item (Current marked status of "Released") that was never actually released/implemented "Manually add page breaks in the New Quiz design (D9327)"!
Absolutely need this ability back as a question length can vary and paging is really about managing not only the quantity of questions but the amount of scrolling required. Quizzes should be stylized with either in mind when considering the student and the presentation of a quiz. So formatting by number of questions when questions are a consistent length (Simple and easy) and formatting by scroll length (Manual paging, a little more difficult but just as important) is needed again. Paging by section is close (Thank you for this!) but not quite the same (I can have sections that need manual paging).
There is also a third case for paging. Pacing. Ultimately pacing is up to the student, not the instructor nor the quiz itself. I believe it has always been a best practice for students to go through all the questions so at least they know what they have in front of them and can judge where they need to put their time into a quiz. Having said that everything that we can do for student to help them along is of benefit. Paging a quiz so that it reflects an equal amount of time expected for a student that has a average to good knowledge of the subject matter would definitely allow a student to judge how much more they have to do in a quiz (I'm three pages in on a five page quiz so I should have about 2/5 of my time left to complete the quiz if I know all the topics ). Of course if you design this way it would also be best to inform the student from with in the quiz that this has been designed this way. This type of pacing can not be done by Section, or by # questions but manually by the instructor in design time of the quiz.
Re: Allow users' to view an expired/closed course
Thank you for reaching out to the Brightspace Community.
From what you have described, it seems the best way is to enroll users in expired courses with a different role that has limited permissions. Access to courses depends on enrollment and role settings. So, if users are enrolled and their role allows access to past, future, or inactive courses, they should be able to access them.
Here's a Brightspace article that might be helpful for the workflow you're trying to achieve:
We hope this information is helpful and please feel free to reach out to us if you have further questions.
Kind regards,

Allow users' to view an expired/closed course
Please share your organization's best practice on how we can allow users to view an expired/closed course—but NOT earn a certificate. Is this handled through an intelligent agent role change with different roles and permissions assigned to that specific role? Such as a 'Read Only' role?
Re: Elementary question...
@Rob.P.213 You can personalize D2L for learners (such as displaying their first name on the homepage) with replace strings using curly brackets.
Re: BS Issues When Using Google Chrome
I'm not certain that this is related, but when we first started integrating BS I found that some browser extensions can interfere with BS features. I started by turning them all off to see if that helped, which it did, then slowly turning them back on again. In honesty, I'm still not sure exactly which one was the problem.
Elementary question...
Today my question is not even worthy of this community, not to mention that the answer is probably available in a document somewhere. I apologize. Today, I simply want to use the power of being able to customize my presentation to the learners. I've heard that there are a slew of {somethinghere} type helpers for what I want to dol
Please direct me...
From here on, I'll take my time and begin my second journey of deepening my understanding of how to maximize the effectiveness I can achieve with D2L. I am an adjunct at two different Brightspace using higherEd orgs. They have different levels of allowed features, sadly. But I want to understand enough that I can get the most out of either.
