Re: How can I hide a discussion thread?
Hello @Pam.P.502
Thank you for reaching out to D2L through the Brightspace Community. It appears you are trying to restrict a thread posted by a user so it would appear only to yourself and the student, while also providing feedback to the user. Unfortunately, it is currently not possible to put such a restriction on a thread.
However, please note: if the discussion topic is set to be graded, you can provide feedback to the student without approving the thread. The user will be able to see the provided feedback. You can do so by clicking on the dropdown button next to the student's thread > Clicking on "Assess Student" and in the "Overall Feedback" area, you can provide the feedback.
Hope this Helps,

Re: HTML Content Pictures: Over-ridden by Banner Image
Hi @Kathleen.B.322
Are you using an HTML Template to add your images?
These pre-formatted pages can sometimes make it easier to style a content topic page.
If not, these steps show how you can add an image to a regular Brightspace page.
Don't be shy to send back a short recording or screenshot of what you're seeing- it can help me to give you more specific instructions to change up the look of the page you're working on.
Re: Can I email all learners from Classlist without opening "Email Classlist"?
Hello @Annette.P.996
Thank you for reaching out to D2L through the Brightspace Community. Thanks for sharing the screenshot for a better understanding of the raised query.
Could you please click on "Email Classlist" without selecting the highlighted option from your screenshot? It should automatically trigger a redirect page displaying all the users with their email address present in the classlist.
Hope this helps,

Re: Readspeaker vs. Free alternatives (NVDA, Talkback...etc.)
Hello @Mina.A.217,
Using ReadSpeaker in Brightspace may offer additional benefits over free alternatives like NVDA. Here are some things to consider:
1. Seamless Integration
- ReadSpeaker: Integrated directly into Brightspace, offering a seamless experience for students and educators. No additional installation or setup is required.
- Alternatives: May requires separate installation and configuration, which can be a barrier for less tech-savvy users.
2. Quality of Voices
- ReadSpeaker: Provides high-quality, natural-sounding voices that enhance the listening experience and comprehension.
- Alternatives: May use standard TTS engines, which may sound more robotic and less natural.
3. User Experience
- ReadSpeaker: Offers a user-friendly interface with features like highlighting text as it is read, adjustable reading speed, and text customization options. These features can help improve reading comprehension and retention.
- Alternatives: Primarily screen readers with a focus on navigating and reading text, but may lack some of the advanced features for enhancing user experience provided by ReadSpeaker.
4. Multi-Language Support
- ReadSpeaker: Supports a wide range of languages and dialects, making it suitable for diverse student populations.
- Alternatives: may supports multiple languages, but the voice quality and availability might not be as extensive as ReadSpeaker.
5. No Additional Setup for Users
- ReadSpeaker: As an integrated tool in Brightspace, it requires no additional setup from the user, ensuring immediate access.
- Alternatives: Users may need to install and configure software on their devices, which can be a hurdle, especially in environments with varying levels of digital literacy.
6. Content Accessibility Across Devices
- ReadSpeaker: Works across various devices and platforms without needing additional software, making it accessible on both desktop and mobile.
- Alternatives: May be limited to specific operating systems, which can be a constraint in environments with diverse device usage.
7. Support and Maintenance
- ReadSpeaker: Comes with professional support and maintenance services, ensuring any issues are resolved quickly and efficiently.
- Alternatives: May depend on community support, which can be less reliable and slower in responding to issues.
8. Consistency and Reliability
- ReadSpeaker: Provides a consistent user experience as part of the Brightspace platform, ensuring reliability and smooth operation.
- Alternatives: The experience can vary based on the configuration and compatibility with other installed software.
I hope this helps!

Re: Grades API forbidden
Hello Sathish,
A 403 Forbidden error typically indicates that the server understood the request, but it refuses to authorize it. This status is often returned if the request lacks valid authentication credentials for the target resource or if the client does not have permission to access the requested resource1.
In the context of the Brightspace API, a 403 error could mean a few things:
- Incorrect User Permissions: The user associated with the API call might not have the necessary permissions to fetch grade values2. Please ensure that the user has the correct permissions in Brightspace.
- Invalid API Call: The API endpoint or the parameters you’re using could be incorrect3. Please ensure that you’re using the correct API endpoint and that the
{{domain}},{{versionG}},{{oid}}, and{{userId}}placeholders are replaced with valid values. - Session Timeout or Invalid Authentication: The session might have timed out, or the authentication might be invalid1. Please ensure that you’re correctly authenticated and that your session is active when making the API call.
If you’re still experiencing issues, could you please provide more details about the steps you’re taking, any error messages you’re seeing, and the context in which you’re making this API call? This will help us better understand the issue and provide a more accurate solution.
I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. 😊
Re: Community Feedback🗨️
As per your comment here in Community Feedback, I have updated the Set up integration with a tool provider article to remove the broken link and replace it with the appropriate content.
You will see the change when our documentation is republished on July 4.
Thank you for finding this gap and helping us improve our documentation😄
