Issues with Powerpoint view in New Content Experience
I have many faculty members who like to upload Powerpoint decks into the Content area. I already receive complaints that Powerpoint files turn into a PDF, but am now receiving complaints that the PDF is showing with text overlaid and out of place. Typically, I would direct faculty members to change to the "View as Page" mode, but the bottom of the PDF viewer is hidden - I can scroll the PDF itself, but am unable to scroll the page down to see the bottom of that viewer box where the "View as Page" option resides. Anyone experiencing something similar? Any work arounds?
Re: Bug when updating quizzes?
This seems like it could be a fairly classic gotcha with the Brightspace APIs.
With a lot of the APIs, when you read an entity from Brightspace user-visible-text fields get encoded as RichText structures. However, when you write to create or update that entity into Brightspace, often you need to encode those fields as RichTextInput structures. The particular Quiz API structures here use that pattern, I believe (QuizReadData for read, QuizData for write).
You may find that making this adjustment to your call addresses the issue.
Re: Quiz grading
Hello @Angela.E.408
Thanks for sharing Screenshot and explaining the issue in depth, We have identified this as a feature request. Kindly open an idea in the community Product Exchange Ideas
The Product Idea Exchange is designed for direct submission by our clients and end users to our Product Development organization and has the following advantages:
• allows you to receive direct updates on each request you submit
• allows other community members to vote on ideas
• allows other community members to contribute to and collaborate on each idea
• ensures ideas that have the greatest impact on our clients and end users receive consideration for inclusion in future releases.
We look forward to hearing from you at the Product Idea Exchange!

Re: Upload Video or Audio files in the Module not showing up in Manage Files Folder
These would go into the Media Library, which is a streaming media service. You can get access to via the cog icon in the top right corner.
Re: CITF course LIBF
Hi @amr.h.498
It looks like you're trying to connect with students in your class which is wonderful!
Your class will likely have a dedicated discussion where you'll be able to connect with other students.
You can use the Login Finder tool to help you find your school's login page to connect with your classes and their dedicated discussion boards.
Re: Call Out for Equations
Thank you for reaching out to Brightspace Community.
Going through your question details, we feel it is best addressed via a dedicated Support case, as we would need to test/investigate the issue and other specific details.
May I suggest you open a Support case with steps to reproduce, so we can take a look and update further.
We thank you for your patience and understanding!
Best Regards,
Syed Hasan
Re: Index.html files present but fail to load?
Hello Rob,
You seem to be the institution's authorized admin. I would suggest opening a support ticket with D2L and/or reaching out to our authorized contacts, so that we can go through the settings, including those specific to your organization.
Inline Feedback Problem
This is a bit urgent. I have an instructor whose students are receiving an error when trying to read the instructor's annotations on Dropbox assignments. When I impersonate the student, and attempt to read the inline feedback for the assignment titled Final Reflection Paper, I get the following error: "Something went wrong. Try again and if it continues to fail, download document to view" Downloading the document does not allow the student to see the inline feedback, either. This seems to be happening across many courses.
Re: When creating a Multi-Short Answer Question (MSA), what is "Columns" referring to?
@Tara.U.403 I think that refers to the number of characters, or the width of the text entry box. It doesn't appear to show correctly if there's only one row, but if you change rows to 2 and preview each column choice, you will see the width increases for each one.
Re: Product Idea Exchange (PIE)
@Naomi.K.444 I visited the link in your post:
https://community.d2l.com/brightspace/kb/articles/1481-baking-a-better-pie
It invites people to share their input in the "comments below". Unfortunately, comments are not enabled for the post.
Here is some of the text from the page:
What do you think?
Having absorbed these changes, we ask two things from you. First, we’d love your feedback on these changes in the comments below. Second, we’d like to get a sense of where the current process isn’t effective; where good ideas somehow don’t seem to get the recognition they deserve. If you can think of a PIE submission not currently in the top 10 that you think is worthy of greater attention, please link to it in the comments below. Most importantly, share why this recommendation is important to you. Collectively, your feedback and PIE highlights will help us in the ongoing process of making PIE more effective — for you and for D2L.
My top-line response re the PIE is that there are MANY well-reasoned, well-supported, and innovative ideas on the PIE, some dating back as far as a decade, on which there has been zero or negligible forward movement. This is not encouraging.
Re specific issues, my biggest concern is the archaic and limiting nature of available quiz question types and the onerous workflows required to create them. These shortcomings are laid out in my PIE item (D9656) and in Joseph Verble's (D6377). The ideas are not new. Requests for more innovative question types date back to 2013.
Re the "Baking a Better PIE" post, it looks as if you're on the right track in terms of improving the platform overall. Planned improvements certainly reflect some of the problems I regularly experience with the current system. For instance:
(1) use more concrete language and avoid using the passive voice wherever possible. This is especially visible in the old PIE "Status Definitions." For instance, what does this actually mean:
"Ideas in Gathering Feedback are not committed to being developed and may move into any downstream status depending on the outcome of the research by the Product Manager."
* I notice that a new and updated version of this definition is now in the works, but as far as I can see, the current status definition page still has these old definitions on it.
(2) add dates to each PIE item that indicate when status changes occurred. I posted this as a PIE item (D10445).
(3) figure out a different way to acknowledge the receipt of new ideas. After seeing it so many times, repeated use of the following sentence begins to feel disingenuous:
"Hi [NAME], thanks for your idea. We will let you know if it goes into planning."
(4) on a related note, I would like to see more timely engagement from the team monitoring the PIE. I repeatedly asked moderators to add a list of "linked submissions" to my PIE item. No responses despite tagging specific D2L individuals.
