Where to find training on the "formula grading system"?

I use specifications grading, which is always hard to express using an LMS because it operates like a checklist. There are no points or percentages.

It was suggested to me that perhaps the "formula grading system" would be a good option for specs grading in Brightspace. However, I am having trouble finding any training materials about how the formula grading system works and where I can learn Brightspace formula syntax. The only resource I found was this one, which offers basically no info.

What suggestions do folks have? What have I missed?

If you use specs grading (or other alternative grading methods), have you found that the formula grading system actually works?
