Late/missed submissions to assignments & discussions

Question

Greetings,

We are trying to figure out how to get a report on late/missed submissions to assignments and discussions, and course content access - for all students/courses in a term. We are unable to find a ready to use/easy to find report in the Insights Portal Dashboards.

Ideally, the report would have Course - Count of late/missed assignments - Count of late/missed discussion posts - average time spent with content - average grade

Hoping that someone else has found a way to do this and is able to share the directions.

Thank you for sharing your use case, yes as per the learner engagement dashboard, we can see discussion posts/threads for the learner; it doesn't show the count for late/missed posts.

Looking at your use case, I would advise you to leverage the following datasets. This involves combining datasets such as Assignment Summary, Assignment Submissions, Discussion Topics, Discussion Posts, Content User Progress, and Grade Results to identify late/missed work, engagement, and performance metrics.

Late/Missed Assignments

* Assignment Summary : contains DueDate, DropboxId, OrgUnitId (the assignment definition with its due date)
* Assignment Submissions — contains LastSubmissionDate, DropboxId, OrgUnitId, SubmitterId
* Logic: Compare LastSubmissionDate against DueDate from the Assignment Summary. If LastSubmissionDate > DueDate → late. If no submission record exists for an enrolled learner → missed.

Late/Missed Discussion Posts

* Discussion Topics — Includes a DueDate column (added in BDS v10.8 / December 2025 release) Data Hub Version 10.x Details
* Discussion Posts — contains DatePosted, TopicId, OrgUnitId
* Logic: Compare DatePosted against DueDate from Discussion Topics. If DatePosted > DueDate → late. If no post exists for an enrolled learner → missed.

Average Time in Content

* Content User Progress — contains time-based fields per learner per content item per course

Average Grade

* Grade Results — contains PointsNumerator, PointsDenominator per learner per grade item
* Final Grades ADS — a simpler pre-joined option for final grade values across courses

Course Identification

* Organizational Units — join on OrgUnitId to get course names, codes, and semester info

Thank you for sharing the link to the Engagement Dashboard.

I tried that and it does provide a count of students with Overdue Assignments.

However, I was hoping to find a  report that provides the following information: Course - Count of late/missed assignments - Count of late/missed discussion posts - average time spent with content - average grade

Appreciate your help in figuring out how to generate this report.
