Any timeline anticipated for LockDown Browser LTI 1.3 support?

The https://community.d2l.com/brightspace/kb/articles/34059-march-2026-20-26-03 state, "Brightspace's Respondus LockDown Browser integration will soon support LTI 1.3. Clients must work directly with Respondus to activate LTI 1.3. There is a new d2l.3rdParty.Respondus.LockdownLTI13LinkId variable required as part of the configuration."

I don't see this mentioned elsewhere on Brightspace Community yet (i.e., in https://community.d2l.com/brightspace/kb/articles/5567-product-and-services-preview%29. , or https://www.d2l.com/product-roadmap/ ). Does "soon" mean this year, or perhaps next year?

As of the March update, the configuraion variable d2l.3rdParty.Respondus.LockdownLTI13LinkId is now available in all Brightspace test and production environments.

The next step is to connect with your institutions Respondus account/support team who will work with you to activate LTI 1.3.

I was able configure things on our test site without contacting Respondus. The Respondus Admin guide for D2L has been updated to include the 1.3 setup information.

Thanks for posting, @Wayne.E.850! The revised Respondus Admin Guide is a great heads-up. (I scanned pgs 6-8.)

Did you have the 1.1 version on your test site previously?
Do you now have two live integrations on there, or did you disable the older one?

Are there any significant changes in how things look/operate on the instructor side of things in 1.3 worth mentioning?

@Janet.O.779 We did have the 1.1 version on our test site previously.

For testing purposes, on the Respondus admin side, I modified the existing Server Profile for our test site, rather than creating a new one.

In Brightspace, when setting up the config variables, the new d2l.3rdParty.Respondus.LockdownLTI13LinkId item notes:
"The unique identifier for the Respondus LockDown Browser Dashboard LTI 1.3 Link to be launched from Manage Quizzes. When a value is present, the Respondus Lockdown Browser integration will use LTI 1.3, overriding any LTI 1.1 config values (d2l.3rdParty.Respondus.DashboardLTILinkId)."

At this point I assume its safe to disable the 1.1, though its already being overridden.

From the instructor side, things looked the same in terms of accessing the dashboard and enabling LockDown Browser and Monitor.

@Wayne.E.850, that information is gold to me! Many thanks for sharing your experience.

Hmm… this suggests to me that all the past Respondus-enabled Quiz "Class Results" and related data generated through 1.1 will go bye-bye—as in it would no longer be visible/accessible within Brightspace as soon as the config variable for the LockdownLTI13LinkID is populated.

I will need to plan the timing of our switchover very carefully, since we have courses using LockDown that continue through the summer.

@Janet.O.779 It doesn't look like any data will be lost, as the information still lives on Respondus side. The path there changes but data remains. There will be different link ids when looking at D2L Data Hub reports. We just switched the production site over to 1.3. One issue I ran into was enabling the tool for specific course sites. We do not enable LockDown Browser by default for all course offerings. Instructors request to have the the tool enabled each semester. After configuring the 1.3 tool, I need to re-enable it for the current term org units so they can continue using it.

Good point, @Wayne.E.850, that the data isn't actually deleted. Thanks again, for sharing your experience. It really helps hearing from a fellow Super Admin doing the transition in real life. 🙂

We have LockDown enabled by default for everything. I've discovered we have a short gap when no courses are running in the first couple weeks of August, so if I can swing it, I might try the upgrade then.
