how does brightspace help protect the intellectual property when the learners are attached to risky internet service providers.

I am studying with the national payroll institute of Canada who uses brightspace and I recently was stuck in a shady automotive repairs shop for half a day. While they played around inside the guts of my car, I was prepared enough to have my access credentials to continue my learning objectives while I waited. However, I noticed the public access point was being quite unpredictable with its loading behaviours on all the resources surrounding brightspace and the external links to outside resources were experiencing similar difficulties.

Could you explain or point me in the direction of data security policies and how to protect the IP from being accessed maliciously? I might have an apple to trade for the efforts.
