Can I give learners a space to complete a personal reflection without it being a quiz or assessment?

Working in a professional setting I'm keen for people to reflect on learning materials. I don't want to push them to a discussion as their reflection may feel vulnerable and it's not something I want to mark as a quiz or assessment. What are my options?

Hello @Kevin.M.6183, thanks for your first question on the Brightspace Community!

My recommendation for this would be to use the Assignments tool. I know you want to avoid using some type of assessment, but you are able to set up an Assignment to be like a 'writing folder' and not have it graded, but still provide feedback.

If you wanted to explore this, head to the Assignments tool in your course to create a new one.

Leave it as ungraded, and this will not tie any points value to the Assignment.

Expand the Submission & Completion section, and switch the Submission Type to "Text submission". Also ensure you leave "All submissions are kept" selected:

When a learner visits the Assignment, they'll be given a text box that they can complete their reflection and submit it:

At any time, they can go back to the Assignment to submit another entry.

From your perspective, each submission shows up when you go to the "View Submissions" area of the Assignment. You can swap between the submissions and leave feedback on the right side of the window:

One thing to keep in mind is that you'll only have a single feedback box, but you can update it with new comments and then select the blue Update button to submit any feedback.

Hope this option may work for you!
