Specifying Category during grade import
When I export grades from Brightspace, the column headers include metadata in angle brackets. For example:
My Item Points Grade <Numeric MaxPoints:1 Weight:10 Category:My Category CategoryWeight:5>
Is there a way to use this same format during import? If I am creating a new item, can I specify which category it belongs in using the metadata? For example, if I create a new item with this header:
My New Item Points Grade <Numeric MaxPoints:1 Weight:10 Category:My Category CategoryWeight:5>
I haven't been able to get this to work, but perhaps I am not doing it right? Brightspace seems to ignore the metadata and makes me use the GUI to specify this information during the import process.
It would seem reasonable that the export and import formats are symmetrical and it would at least prepopulate the GUI form fields based on the metadata in the imported file.
Thanks,
Adam

Hi @Adam.K.759 ,
Thank you for reaching out to us via Brightspace Community!
I found that grades can be imported using the format outlined in . For example, when importing a column such as Assignment 2 Points Grade, the grades will be mapped and added to the corresponding grade items under their respective categories.
I hope this helps!
Thanks,
Rusha

Hi Rusha,
Thanks for responding. However, you don't seem to directly address the core of my question:
If I am creating a new item, can I specify which category it belongs in using the metadata?
You say:
the grades will be mapped and added to the corresponding grade items under their respective categories
To clarify, can the "respective category" be specified in the column header metadata in the imported file, or must it be specified manually through the GUI interface during the import process?
Thanks,

Hello Adam,
Thank you for following up.
As mentioned by my colleague, Rusha, the format to be used when importing grades is detailed from our documentation:
I understand you would like the category to be specified in the import file rather than having to do it via the UI. Unfortunately this is not possible at this time. The category will need to be manually updated via the UI during the import process.
But if you would like more options around this, I would highly suggest the submission of a PIE item.
