Why are hidden topics/folders being counted towards course completion now?

I noticed that when I added a new member to a Learning Group it is showing that they have to complete hidden course content. This was not the case before. We have hidden course content in our HR courses and now I see that these hidden topics are being counted towards the number of topics needed to be done. If you look at the screenshot below, these two people were added to the same course but one says 0/1 complete (which is correct) and the other says 0/29 complete, which is incorrect because it is including hidden course topics. What's going on here?

    Hi there,

I am not sure which learning experience your organization you are using, but it is possible that you need to go through and set the hidden modules as being "optional" so that it does not count toward completions. It is possible that this was not done in the course offering. Check out this article for more information.

Thanks but we have so many courses and we didn't have to do this before. It would take a very long time to mark each topic as optional. I just want to know why this has changed from previous times when hidden folders were not counted towards completion.

    Hello Olivia,

Apologies for that! As far as I know, the system has always required all content items, including hidden or conditionally released ones, to be counted toward completion. With the introduction of Completion Tracking, you now have more flexibility to define what counts as “complete” using Release Conditions. If you’re finding that hidden content is affecting completion, we recommend using these conditions to better control what completion means for your learners and how it displays in Manager Dashboard or Learning Groups.
