Gradebook export download format

Hi, I have a workflow issue in Gradebook export/import and the format of student numbers in the org defined ID.

I'm entering grades from an excel file after scanning multiple choice answer sheets. My goal is to download the Brightspace gradebook, edit in excel using vlookup, save, and import those grades to back to the Brightspace gradebook.

When I download the gradebook, the Org Defined ID has a pound sign (#) prefix. i.e, if the student number is n002345, the Org Defined ID in the exported csv file is "#n002345". This keeps vlookup from working.

Why is the pound sign appended to the student ID numbers in the exported csv file? I was told it is hard coded and can't be changed.
