I have a student who is a week behind and needs an additional week beyond the end date of the course to complete their work. Will adjusting Special Access for one or more gradable entities for a single student extending the availability of entities beyond the end date of the course? Or, does the course end date supersede any/all item availability dates?

Great Question!

Special Access at the activity level does not supersede access to a course. Additionally, there is no equivalent to special access that can be applied at the course level to override access settings that may apply to a role.

One way that you may be able to manage this is through a combination of

1. Switching the users' role within the targeted org unit (i.e. course offering) to a role that can access courses past the end date of the course. The ability for a role to access a course past its end date is determined by the role's Course Access Option within role settings, like so.
2. Setting special access for the targeted activities that you wish to grant special access for

notes:

• ability to create / duplicate / edit roles is typically associated with administrative level access (permission dependent)
• changes to course access options at the role level, apply to all users bearing said role, which is why you will likely want a different role that the standard learner role setup for this purpose if you do not want your standard learner role to be able to access courses past their end date.
