Why my Laptop's CUP usage and RAM utilization goes to 100%
Hi,
I am a faculty member of three different universities. At two of the universities, I am using Brightspace (LIU and CUNY) and at the third one, I use Canvas. I am using a Lenovo Laptop with 16 GIG of RAM and intel Core i7. Whenever I access Brightspace, both from CUNY and LIU, my task manager shows CPU at 100% and RAM at 95-98%. I have done everything from disabling anti-virus to contacting Lenovo, but the problem remains. All updates are installed, the hardware and the OS. This issue only happens with Brightspace. I can use Blackboard and Canvas without any problems. This situation has been with me for over a year, since both of my universities have changed to Brightspace. Please advise.
Thank you

Hi @Allen.D.7290,
Thank you for addressing this issue. I suggest considering the use of another web browser for Brightspace, as local processing problems are typically associated with the browser.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Sincerely,
Rabia

Hello, Allen, how are you?
Do you have any extensions or plug-ins running on your Google Chrome browser while you are browsing Brightspace? Also, how many other tabs do you have open simultaneously while browsing Brightspace?
Also, would you kindly place your mouse cursor over a Chrome tab that has Brightspace running and wait for a few seconds? This should reveal the memory usage for that specific browser tab. I would expect each Brightspace tab to be using around 150 MB
My workstation is similar to yours, except that it has 32 GB, and when having more than 10 tabs open, Chrome does use between 40% to 50% of my total RAM, just as a benchmark. Please, let me know if you have questions, okay?
Thank you kindly,
Piero

Hi. Thank you Piero for your comment. I have turned off all extensions, except one. This problem happens even if I have no program or anybother browser running. It is most strange situation and only happens with Brightspace. If I run the task manager and then have chrome working as soon as I sign on into Brightspace, my cpu % goes to 100% and RAM usage climes up to 95%.
I have contacted Brightspace level 2 support and have not yet recount resolution.
Thank you

Hello, Allen,
Could you, please, hover your mouse cursor over the tab that's running Brightspace in your Google Chome, and send me a screenshot, similar to the one below?
This should help us understand if the memory consumption is coming indeed from Brightspace, or if there's some other dynamic I am not understanding at the moment.
Also, I understand that you have opened a support case with us about this issue, is that correct? If that's the case, could you please share the number of this support case with me, so that I can familiarize myself with it?
Thank you kindly,
Piero de Sá
