We’re so excited to introduce the ⭐️ Quiz Printer Widget ⭐️ for Brightspace Quizzes, now available in the Brightspace Learning Center! This new resource makes it easy to create printer-friendly versions of your Quizzes, right from your Course Offering homepage.

The idea for this Widget came from valuable feedback from Instructors and Administrators, with Johnny Bayerl, one of D2L’s Learning Administration Managers, bringing it to life! 🎉

Recognizing the need for a better way to print Quizzes directly from Brightspace, the Quiz Printer Widget generates an HTML version of your Quiz, which you can print directly or copy into a document creation tool for editing.

Did I read somewhere that learners can see the widget but they are unable to use it? Has anyone installed this widget yet? If so, what do you think of it?

In the Learning Center - they have walk through tutorials (very helpful) - if you use Release Condition on the widget then release it to specific roles (non-student). I have it installed and on all our Course Homepage Defaults - works great!

Our faculty are loving this new widget, but we are finding it is only printing the first 20 questions in the quiz and it's only showing the first 20 quizzes on an instructors list. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? @Deb, when our faculty switch to "View as student", they can see the widget, but we've enabled the permission to only make it visible to instructors, so it's completely hidden from the students, even though instructors see it while viewing their course as a student. We just communicate/reassure that they can't in fact see it or print any of the quizzes :-)

@Kevin.C.952, apologies, that was an oversight on my part on the initial release. I've already published a new version of the widget that will now display more than just 20 questions. Please download the zip file again for the Quiz Printer Widget and update the files where you implemented them in your site (particularly the script.js file and that should fix it)

As for role switch, there are some limitations/differences between that and fully impersonating/using another account in that role, seeing conditionally released widgets is one of those instances.

This is a perfect demonstration of the limitations of the Brightspace API, though I think there should be a clear warning. We built our own quiz printer to create printable / PDF versions in an automated process, but because of these issues we currently create 5500 printable versions manually (that's a lot of hours).

The most dangerous limitation is around question pools: if you have a question pool, it is silently discarded. You won't know there were more questions in the quiz than in your printed version.

Additionally, section information is not included, while these sections are often used to describe a case that sets the context for the following questions. Question types ordering/matching/arithmetic (and maybe even more?) cannot be printed because basic information is not available through the API.

We have been trying all routes we could possibly go within D2L to be able to get our own information through the API since our implementation started, but all efforts have sorted no effect yet. I sincerely hope the shortcomings can be remedied soon!

Edit: I see these items are mentioned in the widget's help page, so that's a good thing, though hidden away.

Thank you for the feedback Johnny.B.962 ! We implemented the newer script and it's working like a charm :-) This has been a HIGHLY requested feature for years, so thank you for making it a reality for our instructors.
