How to have a weblink in one module and reference it from other modules?

Hello! I am a new Brightspace user. In my previous LMS, I had a resources folder with many links to various youtube videos, websites, and other 3rd party resources. Then, under the module for a given Week, I would add a Course Link to the items in the Resources folder that were relevant to that week. This worked awesome - when the student was in the Week 2 folder, they could click on the link, and it would immediately open the youtube video / link / resource. One click! And then I only had to manage one single link in one location, but could reference that link from anywhere else in the shell.

I'm trying to do this in Brightspace but struggling. I setup a Resources module in Brightspace with the links easily. However, I can't figure out how to practically reference them from other modules? I created a file in another module and added a Quicklink to Content under it, but it takes 3 clicks to actually open the video, which is not very practical.

Any other ideas? My main criteria is I don't want to have to update links in 6 places if a youtube video or a website is changed.

  • Hello Alexis,

Based on your description, you likely can accomplish what you are asking by adding a QuickLink to that content from the Brightspace Editor.

Let me know if this solves the problem.

    Hi Andrea,

I tried this. When I did, I had to click 3 times to get the link to open.

    First click:

    Second click:

    Third click:

Although it technically does work, its pretty clunky. Our students get pretty frustrated when they have to jump through hoops like this. Is there any simple way to do it? I am willing to do CSS or HTML modifications if that would help.

    Thanks!

    Alexis

Is there a different way I should organize my course to get around this? I want to maintain one set of links and files in a course, and be able to reference them from multiple areas without copying material (with some kind of internal link).

Here is an example of what I am trying to do. Open to other ways to do it. All files, links, videos, etc are stored in one Resources module. Then, I have one module per week, which contains the agenda for the week, and links to the relevant items from the Resources folder.

This strategy avoids duplicating any files/links/videos and makes it very easy for me to maintain and update. Its worked well for the students because they can access the Week module to focus just on what they need to do that week, and have all resources they need available in that week's module. And, if they ever want to look back on a resource, they don't have remember which week it was in, they can just go the Resources module and see everything. This is also very useful later in the semester when they have self-chosen final projects, and can look through the Resources module to pick whatever they need for their project.
