How do I include a category into the final grade calculation?
At present, the final grade in my course is not including the homework. I am trying to adjust the final grade calculation so that the homework category is included, but I do not see where or how to do that. I also need to take the raw homework grade (x out of 345 points) and convert it to a 100-point scale before inclusion in the final grade calculation. The grading system for the class is points-based, so students earn so many points out of a maximum for e category which is then added together and divided by the total number of points possible to produce a final grade. But I am not seeing how to include the homework in the final grade calculation. Any assistance will be appreciated. Thanks.

@Lance.C.3256 What are the settings on your gradebook? Points or Weighted? If weighted, is the category set to a weight of 0 (which essentially means it's being excluded from the final grade)? Do you have any screenshots?

@Jennifer.W.973 I feel like you didn't read my post. There I tell you that my grades are points-based. I don't have any screenshots, and given the sensitivity of student data and the current laws in place regarding them, I don't feel comfortable obtaining and then providing screenshots to anyone outside of my institution. But I can tell that something is not right. The final grade calculation as it currently appears in my gradebook is out of 350 points, but it should be out of 450 points. Homework is worth 100 points, so it appears that that homework is not being included in the calculation, and I'm trying to figure out how to include it.

Hi @Lance.C.3256,
Thank you for reaching out!
If the final grade calculation in your gradebook is currently set to a total of 350 points, but it should be out of 450 points since homework is worth 100 points. One possibility is that the homework category is excluded from the final grade.
Do you see an icon next to the homework category indicating this is the case? (See below)
If so, please follow these steps:
- Go to Grades > Manage Grades.
- Click the dropdown next to the Homework category and select Edit.
- Check if Exclude from Final Grade Calculation is selected. If it is, please uncheck this option to include the category’s points in the final grade.
In regard to converting the raw homework grade (e.g., x out of 345 points) to a 100-point scale before including it in the final grade calculation, there isn't a direct way to do this within a points-based gradebook since you do not specify a category’s weight or total points in this system. Instead, it’s the maximum points assigned to each individual grade item that counts toward the final grade.
You may choose to distribute the points evenly so they add up to 100 points instead of 345. If you're looking for a more streamlined approach, you may consider switching to a weighted grading system where homework can be assigned a specific weight, making it easier to scale to 100 points automatically.
