How do you use brightspace to determine LDA

How do you use brightspace to determine LDA, last date of attendance, for students who drop a class?

  • Hi Lisa,

It depends on how you define attendance. If it is accessing the course, you could look at the classlist to see the last date the student accessed the course.

If it is submitting something, like as assignment/quiz/discussion or looking at content, you could look at the the student's progress summary and find the most recent submitted item.

Do you think either of these could work?

    Best,

    Andrea

I should have been more specific in my question. Is there an API to gather this information for one student in one course? We want to capture the information and store it outside of D2L since the information on Brightspace is removed when a student is dropped from a class.

  • You could use the Course Access Brightspace Data Set. This would give you the most recent day when a user accessed a course. This would include users that were unenrolled from the course.

The information is typically not removed from the user interface in Brightspace either. If you look under the Enrollment Statistics in the Classlist, you should still see the last day a withdrawn student accessed a course.

Has anyone found a way to extract the LDA with a data integration so it can be used in another system, such as a financial aid system, so a staff member does not need to do a manual lookup on each student that drops a class?
