Quiz question - how to enable choice within an exam

My institution is soon to introduce Brightspace as the LMS and I am playing in my sandpit to become familiar. I am entering a quiz and have resolved most issues except one. I am creating different sections for the exam. Section A has a random pool of 20 selected from 27 questions. Worked that out. Section B and Section C students choose one question out of two only from each section. The system will not allow me to do A or B and have only one count towards the final mark. Is there an option to give students a choice of which questions they complete. I was an academic and always set my exams this way, to give the students some choice and not have an expectation they must know everything. My only thought is I create two questions in one with OR in between.

  • Hello @Sue.S.4

Thank you for reaching out to us through the Brightspace Community.

As of now, your intended workflow is not possible. However, I have checked our Product Idea Exchange, and choosing a question out of a pool has already been requested as a feature in future updates:

Create an optional question option within the quiz tool (D9279)

That said, I would like to invite you to vote for this idea.

The Product Idea Exchange is designed for users like you to send direct submissions to our Product Development organization and has the following advantages:

    • It allows you to receive direct updates on each request you submit
    • It allows other community members to vote on ideas
    • It allows other community members to contribute to and collaborate on each idea
    • It ensures ideas that have the greatest impact on our clients and end users receive consideration for inclusion in future releases.

We look forward to hearing from you at the Product Idea Exchange!

@Sue.S.4 In order for students' earned points and the total quiz points to be accurate, you can just make one of the two questions a bonus question in the quiz - but you will need to explain to students that it is not really a bonus question and it's fine to not answer the other question since D2L will warn them that there is an unanswered question before they submit.

I did find a solution - I added the two options in the one question as such with a OR in between them. Eg.

    Discuss the benefits of IMC

    OR

Why is integration of communication tools important?

Before I did this I create a section and the section had instructions on Part B. I then added the quesiotn as a subcategory unde rSection B. Hope that makes sense. I could not vote - system told me to use a differnt email address btw???
