How do I set up bonus point items in the Gradebook?

I am trying to add bonus extra credit items to my course shell but they are skewing the point system.

Are you able to provide more detail on how your gradebook is being skewed?
If the Bonus Grade checkbox is selected, the points granted for that item will be added on top of the calculated grade.
