I'm sorry this staff member is experiencing this issue. Would you be able to share a screenshot of what their screen looks like?
Re: How to overwrite file when updating topic file
Hi Matthew,
As in 20.23.7 release( ,
API routes now exist for the Create/Delete Folder and Create/Delete/Overwrite Files in Manage Files. Previously, these API routes were not possible, and users created files via Content API workflows. Users can now easily update and manage files used by Content. For more information on these API routes,
Should you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Re: How to overwrite file when updating topic file
Hello Matthew,
I'm in the same boat.
I was able to drag and drop updated files from my computer to d2l content folders and have them overwrite the old files automatically for years. Then in November 2024 the default abruptly changed to create a new file with "-copy" attached. I assumed this was the outcome of a d2l update. Like you I've been unable to change the default.
It's still possible to do, but what used to be a 1 step file updating process has ballooned into 8 steps/clicks.
I was on the phone today with d2l IT help and they were unable to help. Actually, they were unaware that this function had even been possible in the past.
Now, instead of 6 steps to update the files in my 6 d2l shells, I need 48 steps/clicks. This is a massive step backwards in functionality, and it seems update designers are not even aware there's been a change in the default. This is a drastic (and avoidable) decrease in my productvity and I hope that someone out there is listening.
In the meantime it's easier for me to post my files in Google Drive, which allows drag and drop with overwrite, and just post the Drive link in d2l. If you have found a solution since your last post, please let me know.

Re: How to overwrite file when updating topic file
Please, Please, PLEASE, D2L, address this problem! I have spent SO MUCH TIME with this problem. I do not understand why the ability to overwrite was removed.
I read forums and saw I should submit a support ticket, but when I follow what I see as the instructions, I get a page that says I am not authorized to view this content.
Please, please help.
Re: Assigning AWARDS/CERTS at the ORG unit to users with the same name
Hello @Ruben.Z.136,
Although this may not help you manage in the absence of additional user identifying information, I wanted to point you in the direction of a related Product Ideas Exchange (PIE) request:
Duplicate Names - Additional Details Needed on Classlist Awards Page (D11646)
I would encourage you to upvote that idea, which is currently under review by our development team.

Example making a submission to an assignment using the API?
Hi all,
I'm trying to use the Brighspace API to make submissions to assignments from an instructional programming environment (IPE). The students submits their work in the IPE, then the IPE submits the names of the files submitted to Brightspace.
I'm using this API:
POST /d2l/api/le/(version)/(orgUnitId)/dropbox/folders/(folderId)/submissions/mysubmissions/
but I'm getting a 400 status code with the detail, "Request has missing or invalid parameters."
The documentation says "The post’s multipart/mixed body should contain a JSON part encoding the submission’s descriptive comments in RichText, followed by the submission file’s data (the action requires a submission to include a file, not just a description)." I've taken a stab at following this but no luck so far.
Is there an example anywhere that shows what the POST body needs to contain?
Thank you,
—Jon
Re: Example making a submission to an assignment using the API?
Hi Unaib,
Thank you for your response. I am not using Apitesttool, I am testing directly with my application. I may give Postman a try. I have since gone beyond the 400 error, now I am getting a 500 response:
{"type":"about:blank","title":"Internal Server Error","status":500}
According to the documentation, this means that "Submitted comments are too large." But the entire POST body is 338 bytes, so that doesn't seem right. In case you can see something, here is the body of my post:
--78d705f9-6be1-4504-a447-7240ae816ebd
Content-Type: application/json
{"Text":"Submitted from CodeWork","Html":"<p>Submitted from CodeWork</p>"}
--78d705f9-6be1-4504-a447-7240ae816ebd
Content-Type: text/plain
gmail.com/jpmunson/OCT/submissions/WCOXBRSQ/Test121/jpmunson/HelloWorld.java
--78d705f9-6be1-4504-a447-7240ae816ebd--
Content-Type header is set to "multipart/mixed; boundary=78d705f9-6be1-4504-a447-7240ae816ebd"
Content-Length header is set to 338
Thank you for any assistance you can give me on this.
