Re: Unenrolling a Student While Saving Their Work
Hi Michael,
Yes, re-enrolling a student restores all of the work they have completed back to visible in the course.
Re: How do I exclude the observing instructor from the list of users when adding special access?
Hi Rogelio.del.Cano2021,
You will need to remove the role's permission to See and Submit Files to Assignment Submission Folders under the Assignments grouping in Roles and Permissions.
Re: Discussion Board and topic notifications
Hey @MSUTexas_Michael,
Thanks for reaching out to us here at the Brightspace Community!
There are a few ways I can think of that may be helpful:
- A workaround to get a notification would be that the instructor should post to their class via the activity feed (or announcements tool) after the new topic was created and announce it to the class. This is not exactly what the instructor might be looking for and is an extra step but ensure the topic goes into the minibar.
- Do the instructors currently use the work-to-widget? If the new topic was created w/ a date on it, it'll automatically appear in the work-to-widget which if learners are used to looking at, it'll appear there for them. (See attached image).
I hope this information helps you in your exploration! Currently, there does not seem to be another way of notifying a user when a topic is created in a forum.
Re: How to upload assignment files on behalf of student?
Hi Etienne,
Your institution would need to allow the Instructor role to impersonate students and then under classlist, you should see a dropdown with an option for “Impersonate ”
This option creates a live session as the user, so that's just something to keep in mind.
Documentation for this:
Impersonate a User: A user can impersonate another user from the Classlist tool. For example, it would be beneficial to impersonate a user when submitting a quiz on their behalf. The ability to enable user impersonation is set in the Users tool's permissions. Contact your administrator for more details.
- On the navbar, click Classlist.
- From the context menu of the user you want to impersonate, click Impersonate.
Re: Grades: Internal Error
Hi all,
We (at Minnesota State) experience this issue on an intermittent basis. According to D2L, the issue occurs after reordering and/or deleting a larger number of grade items from the 'Manage Grades' screen. This causes the 'Enter Grades' screen to be out-of-synch and an internal error message displays.
Here's our workaround and resolution:
- Workaround: Copy the OU # of the affected course, go to a good course and navigate to the 'Manage Grades' screen, at the end of the URL replace the OU# with the one you copied, press enter, now you can access the 'Manage Grades' screen in the affected course.
- Resolution: From Manage Grades in the affected course, click More Actions > Reorder, click save without making any changes. You should now be able to access the Enter Grades page in the affected course.

Re: Admins: Is there a course archiving standard that you follow that you are willing to share?
Hey @cetltech,
Thanks for connecting with us!
Upon reviewing a few comments from past conversations in the Legacy Community around archiving courses, institutions implement a timeline of 2 weeks after last day of classes for when learners are not able to access courses, meanwhile, educators have access set up indefinitely. Often educators like access to their course data!
Here is a common workflow we have seen regarding removing access for users/or any roles from Past courses. This can be done by using Roles>Settings.
Unless user/role have permission to Access past courses or Access inactive courses, they will not see courses that have been closed(End-Date) or have been Inactive.
If you go to admin tools>roles and permissions>Click on one role drop-down>Edit settings(not permissions), you will see three options under "Course Access Options"
I hope this information helps your exploration.
Re: Role Data for Content Display
Hi @Renee.Judd6243 ,
Thanks for reaching out to the Brightspace Community.
That field corresponds to content statistics, feedback, and SCORM reports, within Role Settings.
Hope this was helpful and please do not hesitate to reach out to the Community again😀
Re: How do I throw out a question in a quiz that is already graded?
@Julie.Sharma8684 Depends on if you want to delete the question (so it won't appear in future attempts) or just dismiss it and if you want to give everyone extra credit, full credit, or no credit. I have all the workarounds explained here.
Re: Can you find all references to a specific URL across an entire institution's instance?
Thanks for connecting with us here at the Brightspace Community!
Currently, we do not have such a tool inside the Brightspace Environment. However, if you require an assist with this effort please feel free to reach out to your IT Help Desk/ Institution's Brightspace Administrators as they can connect with your dedicated Customer Success team for additional support.
We are also constantly looking for your feedback to continue to improve your Brightspace experience: submit a PIE item for this product feature request. The Product Idea Exchange (often referred to as PIE) is your place to share your product and feature ideas, discuss them with the Brightspace Community, and vote for those you would like to see developed. As a user of PIE, you can share your ideas for future enhancements and monitor the ideas of others.
I hope this helps.
Re: Preventing intelligent agents from flagging instructors as violators in their own class
Thanks for connecting with us here at the Brightspace Community.
To get you started, might I recommend checking out this video outlining a few steps to Encourage engagement using Intelligent Agents.
Additionally, to help troubleshoot with you, could you share with me what you IA set up looks like for the “Role In Class” setting under “1. Criteria”?
