Widget Config for Visual Table of Contents not working
The screenshot I attached is a line I input that seemed to work (in that it let me save and close) but so far I've seen no noticeable changes. Is there something I'm missing here? I read the articles on the subject but no examples were provided on how to actually use the Widget Config.
Re: Is there an API call to retrieve list of all courses with orgUnitId's?
Call several APIs:
- Find your organization orgUnitId: /d2l/api/lp/1.9/organization/info
- Retrieve orgstructure: /d2l/api/lp/1.9/orgstructure/
- Retrieve outypes: /d2l/api/lp/1.9/outypes/
- Retrieve a list of all semesters: /api/lp/1.9/orgstructure/6606/descendants/?ouTypeId=5 (for example, root organization orgUnitId 6606, semester ouTypeId )
- List courses during a particular semester: /d2l/api/lp/1.9/orgstructure/41207/children/ (semester Winter 2017 Identifier: 41207)
Additionally, list courses from Department, course template structure:
- List department: /api/lp/1.9/orgstructure/6606/descendants/?ouTypeId=101 (department ouTypeId 101)
- Retrieve the course templates within a department: /d2l/api/lp/1.9/orgstructure/6607/children/ (Administration department 6607)
- List the courses listed within a department, a course template: /d2l/api/lp/1.9/orgstructure/6607/descendants/?ouTypeId=3 (by specifying the ouTypeId for a course template)
Re: How can I change the visibility status of an item from 'Hidden. Conditions are inactive' to...
@Jane Butterfield , that's a great work around. Confirming that it works.
@Iwona Szelag steps to reproduce:
- Create a new Content Module or Topic, make sure it is hidden.
- Go to Manage Dates and select 'Edit Dates' for what you just created
- Check the box and add a date for Availability - Has Start Date
- Done. The Content you just created now is in status "Hidden. Conditions are inactive"
By setting a date, the expected behavior should be that the conditions are now active and the content will reveal itself at the date I picked since I just checked the box. The text of this state is "Visible if conditions are met". This state is impossible to achieve unless the content is first exposed and then re-hidden by adding conditions.
What D2L users need to do to get this working:
- Navigate back to the Content tab
- Toggle the 'Hidden' button
- Ignore the warnings that your release conditions will be lost
- Navigate back again to the Manage Dates, find the content, and repeat the top steps again so now it hidden again since the conditions are not yet met
- Finally the Content is "Visible if conditions are met"
Content in the Manage Dates section needs to have more options to switch the state. The current flow is not intuitive and broken since the work around as Jane suggested is to make temp hidden folder so content doesn't get exposed too early while we're jumping back and forth clicking "unhide" and setting dates.
Re: Community Feedback🗨️
Hi there, faithful D2L Team. 🙂
I was just reading and would like to make a little suggestion. In the final sentence "do not hesitate to ask questions on Brightspace Community or via your CSM or TAM," I think it would be helpful to spell out the acronyms. I know what these letters mean now 😁, but for my first couple years with Brightspace they were a source of ??. 🤔
Re: Bypass redirect when doing OAUTH2 login
Thanks for your response Ivan. I think maybe my question wasn't clear enough. I intend to get OAUTH2 credentials for an identified Brightspace user through this process. However this user will be a specialized Brightspace user set up to work with my application as opposed to being a student or teacher. The reason for using this approach is because the app needs to perform some API calls that we don't want to make available to all users.
Our system is set up to redirect to Microsoft ADFS to verify users but that only works for accounts associated with a student or teacher. If the redirect to ADFS was not in place my app would display a window where the Brightspace credentials for this user would be entered but because of the redirect it tries to display the institutional login screen. For an interactive login to D2L there is the "noRedirect=1" option that can be added to the URL to cause D2L to authenticate against it's internal user data rather than redirecting to an institutional login. I was hoping for an equivalent feature that could be used with an OAUTH2 login.
Feedback on recent changes to the PIE
Hi folks, Just a comment that I'm not loving recent updates to the PIE. With this change, we are no longer able to:
- "Like" posts (and all existing "Like" info for posts has disappeared).
- add images in replies…in fact, all images I previously added are no longer visible. They have just become dead link text.
- edit posts after submitting (which I sort of agree with…although it's frustrating if all I want to do is fix a typo)
Was input sought for these changes? If so, from whom and how?

Data for device usage
Hey,
Is there any way to see what devices our users use on the LMS?
Does Domo have any ability to do this?
Thanks
Stephen
Re: how to handle late penalty
This is a significant limitation of D2L that I just discovered. I know other systems allow automatic grade reductions based on how late an assignment or quiz is.
Re: How do you apply Header row and column distinction in tables?
Thanks. It would be helpful to add this to the Table information in the Community documents too.
Assignment display changes that are not included in April release notes
Why was the date when the assignment feedback was last saved changed to a tooltip in the last update?
I can find nothing about it in the release notes.
We use that date for many reasons, like instructors knowing where they left off Grading/ reviewing assignments, especially during exam time, which is right now. We use anonymous grading and have developed a method to bulk upload the exams as feedback which sets the status to saved as draft. Without that date showing on the page, many many more hours will be needed to grade in what is already a tight turn around time. Can this be changed back?
