Google’s updated Google Lens Homework Help feature (released in Chrome 140 on Tuesday Sept 2, 2025) was just recently released. We understand there are concerns on the potential impact it could have on the integrity of how online assessments are delivered. Google would like for you to share your feedback about this feature with them directly by using their Report an issue or send feedback option in Chrome.
We are in discussions with Google to understand how we can ensure the integrity of our Brightspace Quizzing tool with the release of their Homework Help. Google has indicated there are institutional and educator controls to manage your environment.
- Chrome Enterprise Policies:Admins can manage features at an institutional level by defining their GenAI defaults and managing Lens overlay features. This allows them to set a policy that applies to all managed users.
- Managed Chromebooks: For educators using managed Chromebooks, Class Tools can be used to create a distraction free learning environment. One of the management features allows teachers to pin content or learning tools to a student’s page, ensuring learners don’t have access to other tools.
Brightspace cannot control the features, tools and plug-ins enabled on our users browsers.
For higher-stakes quizzes or exams, solutions like lockdown browsers or integrated proctoring can help limit access to outside tools like this Homework Help option during exams.
We’re closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
