Finding videos where captions have or have not been auto-generated?
Is there a way to find out which videos across our instance have had auto-captioning applied, or which ones haven't, or both? This would be very helpful for us for improving accessibility and ensuring compliance with our institutional digital accessibility policy.

Hi Sarah,
Great question! Brightspace doesn’t currently provide a single report that lists all videos with or without auto-generated captions across the entire instance. However, there are a couple of ways to check captioning status depending on where your videos are hosted:
- If you’re using Video Note: When you upload or edit a Video Note, you can see whether captions were automatically generated in the Video Note Editor. Auto-captioning is enabled by default if your organization has it turned on. You can also manually edit captions there.
Learn more: Creating and Editing Video Notes - If you’re using Capture App or other integrated tools: Captioning options vary by tool. For Capture, captions are generated during processing if your admin has enabled the feature. You can confirm by opening the video in Manage Files or the Capture Portal and checking the caption settings.
See: Using Capture App
Currently, there isn’t a global search or filter for caption status across all courses. If this is critical for compliance, you might consider using Brightspace Data Sets (e.g.,
Content ObjectsorMedia Objects) to identify videos and then verify captions manually.I hope it answers your question.
Have a great day!
Raquel

Thank you, how do we turn on auto-captioning for video note?
