Intelligent Agents and formula or calculated columns

We are stumped about how to create an Intelligent Agent for the following use case.  An instructor has set up her gradebook with a category for homework assignments, and wants to identify students who are missing a significant proportion of HW assignments (say, there are 10 HW assignments and she wants to identify people who have submitted 4 or fewer so far).  She has a formula column in the gradebook whose total represents the # points eared on  HW assignments completed so far.  Release conditions for grades only allow for selecting individual HW assignment columns, not the formula column.

The instructor also considered simply setting up an Intelligent Agent for students with overall low grades in the course (as grades so far are accumulated by may small assignments).  But we can't identify a release condition for the IA that would identify students with overall low grades (only those with low grades on a particular assignment).

Any ideas?

    Hi @Holly.B.888

Thank you for reaching out in the Brightspace Community.

I have looked into this. Unfortunately, the release conditions are somewhat limited when it comes to aggregating data across multiple grade items or formula grade items. I found that these features are requested in our Product Idea Exchange on the Brightspace Community-

Include Final Calculated/Adjusted grade as a release condition (D10518)

Ability to create release conditions based on a formula grade item (D737)

Note: PIE authenticates through the Brightspace Community. From the Brightspace Community Navbar, click on Resources > Product Idea Exchange.

Since formula grade items and final grades can't be directly used in release conditions, one workaround would be to create a separate numeric grade item and manually update it with the number of homework assignments submitted (or points earned), based on the existing formula column. I understand that this approach involves manual upkeep and may not be ideal for larger class sizes.

Apologies for the inconvenience, but at this time, I don’t see any other viable workarounds for this specific use case.

    Best Regards,
    Ajith Joseph
