Different time zones

Hi… How can we solve the issues about different time zones? If we ask students to change it manually from their account settings, it works correctly just for Americas and Europe, not other continents. This might cause confusion, especially when it comes to the assignment/quiz due dates. Could you please provide a solution to this? Thanks

    Hello Mehrnaz,

Thanks for reaching out and submitting your question.

If an assessment is due at 7:00PM EST, and a user has ensured their timezone in Account Settings matches their local timezone (i.e PST), then in Brightspace the assessment should show the due time at 10:00 PM (which is the PST converted time for 7:00PM EST).

If the above does not meet all the scenarios for your organization, here are some ways to handle the timezone discrepancies among users:

    1. Set the assessment activity in local time your e.g. EST
You can use the Special Access option to manage individualised due dates for users of the other 3 time zones.
    2. Create separate assessments activities each with a due date aligning with the local time.
Using release conditions (i.e based on Groups) you can release the activity to the respective timezone group.
We have the Manage Dates tool that can be used to edit the due dates in bulk: https://community.d2l.com/brightspace/kb/articles/5018-bulk-edit-dates-in-manage-dates

I hope the above information helps!

If the above does not help, could you please share a specific scenario that has affected your users and we can provide a solution for that scenario?

    Best regards,
    Abrar

    Hi Abrar,

Thank you for sharing your ideas on this. I was wondering if there’s any way D2L can address the issue with different time zones, specifically by adjusting it directly in the time zone settings, without requiring special access.

    Best regards,
    Mehrnaz

    Hi Mehrnaz,

    Thanks for reaching out again.

I've tested the time zone settings internally for Africa, Asia, and Oceania, and they appear to be working as expected. When I compared a user's time zone to the default time zone of an assignment or quiz, the due date and time adjusted correctly based on the user's account settings.

Could you please try checking again to see if you can still replicate the issue with those specific time zones?

If you're still experiencing a problem, I recommend opening a support case with our team. Please include the following details so we can investigate more thoroughly:

    • The affected user's name and timezone.
    • Specific details about the assignment, quiz, or event.

    Best regards,
    Vivek
