I'm inside of my Brightspace course (student), and I'm unable to scroll through content pages.
I received some support and have tried it, but nothing seems to be working. I'm wondering if there's something else I need/should be doing?
Here's the support suggestions I received:
If the Brightspace page loads normally but you cannot scroll vertically, the cause is usually on the browser/page-rendering side rather than a Brightspace issue.
Here's some things that you can try.
- An embedded object is capturing the scroll. If the page contains an iframe, your mouse pointer may be sitting over that object. The embedded frame can capture the mouse wheel without actually scrolling. Move the pointer over a blank area of the Brightspace page and try scrolling, or use Page Down/arrow keys.
- The Brightspace page's scroll container has become stuck. Brightspace uses nested containers rather than always relying on the browser's main scrollbar. Occasionally, a JavaScript/rendering problem can leave the page visible while its main content container is effectively locked.
- Try Ctrl+F5 to force-refresh the page.
- Also try resizing the browser window; surprisingly, that can force Brightspace to recalculate the page dimensions.
- Browser zoom is causing a layout problem. Reset the browser to 100% zoom with Ctrl+0, then reload the page. Browser pages can react oddly sometimes when they are zoomed/scaled differently.
- An extension or browser setting is interfering. Ad blockers, accessibility extensions, password managers, translation tools, or other extensions that modify webpages can occasionally interfere with Brightspace's page structure.
- Open the same page in an InPrivate/Incognito window. If scrolling works there, an extension or cached browser state becomes a strong suspect.
- In that case, delete your browsing history, clear your cache, delete any cookies. Also reboot your computer. (NOTE: This is always a good practice when you're having issues with navigating and loading webpages.)
- It may be specific to that Brightspace page. This is an important diagnostic. Open a different Content page in the same Brightspace course. If other pages scroll but this particular page doesn't, then there may be an issue with that particular page.
- A hidden overlay may be sitting on top of the page. Occasionally a dialog, menu, loading overlay, or accessibility component doesn't dismiss correctly. It can be transparent but still intercept mouse/touch events. Press Esc a couple of times and see whether scrolling returns. For example, you might see these dialog boxes when setting permissions for sharing documents.
Hoping that one of these strategies will remedy the problem. Above all, try the clearing of your cache/deleting cookies/computer reboot option first. If that works, great. If not, then I suggest moving through this sequence of actions:
Ctrl+0 → Ctrl+F5 → try another Brightspace content page → try the affected page in an InPrivate/Incognito window → try another browser
