So, I talked to Ken Thomas one of the deans of Northern Essex Community College, via email in response to a grading method on Brightspace on the student classroom portal. I contacted their director directly, but she didn't answer back, (assuming she's out on vacation). In response to my outreach about a concern about the grading method with Brightspace in comparison to the transparency Blackboard had since the start of the summer semester. He explained to me that Brightspace uses the total cumulative grading system, to which for every engagement to the discussion board that grades a 1%, it deducts the cumulative overall score from the quizzes and exams. Therefore, that is the reason why that would explain why my test scores are so low? I had my doubts. I noticed a real difference in the way answers were shown from Brightspace compared to Blackboard, and it's stark; but not in a good way. Now my question to the creators of Brightspace is, could you guys maybe consider bringing the grading method back or streamline it to reflect the hard work that every student (and not just myself) did? Or that's not an option anymore? 😞
