Removing evaluator when there is only 1

I have a course which has one Faculty member in the classlist, everyone else is a student. This Faculty member is listed as the Evaluator of the 2 Turnitin assignments. It seems unnecessary to have them listed as the Evaluator, since they already have permission to grade the assignment. When we try to remove the evaluator from the assignment, it gives confusing warnings about if we really want to do this, but nothing actually seems to remove the evaluator.

Has anyone else had a problem like this? Should we just leave the Faculty as the evaluator? What caused this to happen to begin with?

Thanks for your help.

I haven't had this problem myself but if it were me, I would just leave the Faculty as the Evaluator if the class is already in session. If it's not in session, you could perhaps just recreate the assignment from scratch and see what happens.

The documentation about assigning Evaluators https://community.d2l.com/brightspace/kb/articles/25953-advanced-assessment-for-all-environments-of-brightspace#set-up-a-delegation-co-marking-or-multi-evaluator-workflow suggests to me that maybe either a completely unexplained error happened…. or somebody clicked "Select Evaluators," which started the workflow, and then clicked "Save" (instead of "Cancel") and so now it's stuck where it is (?).

If you don't want to bother with assigning Evaluators in a course, I think the key is to not touch the setting for it. This is what ours look like when there's only one instructor… we don't click the link and we have no problems.

Thanks! I wasn't sure if it was going to affect anything, and I was puzzled as to why it was there.

I actually found out that the Evaluator thing (at least this part of it) is new and can be turned off at the Organization level.

Yes, it was rolled out in August. I received an email about it from Customer Success. They offered a brief window in time where you could fill out a form to request that the feature be hidden in your Brightspace installation so you could control if/when it was enabled on your site. FYI that they said they don't recommend turning it off after it's been on and assignments have been created, but they didn't say why. I assume turning it off could cause some kind of issue… hopefully you will be spared that.

    Yes, I hope so, too!
