Assignment deleted becore un-linking from grade book, cannot delete the column from grade book

An instructor was re-arranging some assignments in a Brightspace course. An Assignment that was linked to the grade book was removed as it was no longer needed. The Assignment, hwoever, was removed without un-linking it from the grade book. As a result, the corresponding column was left behind in the grade book, still has the association with the Assignment tool and cannot be deleted, at least, in any way that I can see. Is there some way to remove such a column from the grade book under this circumstance?

    Thank you for reaching out to the Brightspace Community.

    Based on what you are describing, we have to use an API to remove the association.
    Once that step is complete, you should be able to delete the grade item in question.
    I would like to suggest to have a support agent take a closer look at things.
