It would be great if you could export an Excel spreadsheet from the sections rather than just the overall roster.

Thank you for your question. In regard to exporting the sections from a classlist, there is a workaround that you can apply. If you go to Enter Grades > Export, under "Export Options > Export Grade Items For" you can select the sections you'd like to export.
Then, you can check the student details and uncheck the grades. It would export the students rosters in the section, without any grades, in an Excel format.
Additionally, I'd like to mention PIE item D2124 which mentions this feature. It's under consideration which means it could be implemented in the future. It's advisable to vote on it to voice your opinion.

Thanks for writing this out. I had in fact tried what you had written about a week ago and it didn't work. I asked our IT people why it wouldn't and they said it wasn't a feature yet and suggested I write to this forum.
I guess in that weeks time our system caught up.
