For a class that currently is not open yet, how am I supposed to access this discussion?

Thank you for reaching out! It sounds like the discussion board you've linked is part of your institution's Brightspace instance. Unfortunately, we don’t have access to the content within individual courses or instances managed by your school or organization.

I recommend reaching out to your instructor or the support team at your institution to clarify when the course will open and how to access the discussion board.
