Can I use one grade item for two assignments?

I have two versions of the same assignment. Students can only access one version and it produces a mark depending on which group they belong to. So I end up with two columns of marks. Each student has a mark for the assignment they did and a zero for the assignment they don't have access to. What I want is one column of marks that draws from two sources depending on which group the student belongs to. Is this possible?

Unfortunately, I don't believe you can connect two assignments to the same grade.

You can use a Grade Category for the two columns of marks that you describe, and configure it with the "Number of lowest non-bonus items to drop for each user" option to be 1, so that the "zero" won't count against them.

Then you can also use Release Conditions based on the Group they are in on the individual Grade Items as well to align with the version of the Assignment they can access, so student's don't see both columns of marks (ie - they won't see the zero).

    I hope this helps!
