Yes, the banner has a light to dark fade running down the banner display area. This is to accommodate text that can be overlayed the lower area of the banner widget. At this stage there is not an option to disable/remove the fade.
The idea to have this functionality is a good one and you should consider submitting the idea into the Product Idea Exchange (3rd Party Tool) for review and consideration.
An alternative to using the banner widget is to create a custom widget to display the image.

Hi Chris that link didn't work. Actually I think I put this suggestion on there before and it did not receive and answer.
I also had another ida that oculd help the kids keep organized. You see on the following list TYPES of GOEVERNMENT {assignment] I would like that text to be 'red' so the kids know that THAT is an assignment. I guess there is not at option for this?

Most PIE Access problems can be resolved by following/confirming that you're taking the following two steps:
1) Please follow the steps outlined in this article to re-initiate the verification that will connect you to PIE on your next login to the Brightspace Community 2) PIE can't be accessed directly. You must login to the D2L Brightspace Community first. To access PIE:

Doug, I agree, that would be a great feature if you could post your idea in the PIE. Like, make it where, if there is no text layer over the banner, than that annoying darkening layer also wouldn't go over the image.
