I assume that someone created this announcement during the setup of our system, and I would like to delete it. But I cannot see it in the "Global Announcements" admin tool.

Do they only see it on the My Home page? If so, have you tried looking in the regular news tools and delete it from there?
The Global Announcements is to make a news item show up in every course offering in your installation.
Could you tell me where I can find the regular news tool?
It is normally a widget that is loaded onto the homepages. Click on the drop down menu to the right of the News/Announcements wordage. Then choose go to News/Annoucements Tool. Then you can see all of items created and delete old ones.
This is the D2L url to the tool:
https://elearn.midlandstech.edu/d2l/lms/news/main.d2l?ou=13683
Replace the url with your college url and the ou= to your My Home OU
Ok thank you - I first have to figure out that homepage system.
The url way should get you into the tool without the widget being on the homepage.
But if the users are seeing that message in the image you posted then you already have the widget on the homepage.
Ok thanks, it worked. I am still confused about the difference between
d2l/lms/news/main.d2l?global=0&ou=6606
and
d2l/lms/news/main.d2l?global=1&ou=6606
where 6606 is the ID of our organization (not a course id).
the regular news/announcement tool is to post only in the current org
the global tool is used to post in every org in the instance
