Could you set up Discussions in the same way as Assignments with the ability to have an "end date"

Question

I would like for my students to be able to contribute to a Discussion AFTER the due date. Assignments allow me the ability to set it up so that students can submit their assignment it it shows me that they submitted it LATE. Could we leave Discussions open (not have an END DATE) so that students could submit responses but it would show up as LATE?

It is not possible to have a due date for Discussion. What many of our instructors do is put a due date on the content link to the Discussion topic.

I looked through the articles you linked to and then I looked at my D2L classes and I do not have the ability to set a "Due Date" for Discussion Forums. I only have the ability to set "End dates."
