Multiple Browser Tabs Open

Greetings!

I've had some students ask if it were possible to disable the opening of new tabs in a browser when they click on the Go to Discussion link. I did a screen capture and posted what I think is going on to my students.

But I wonder if there is, in fact, a way of disabling the "new window" approach and simply have the discussion thread appear? I can understand how some of my students might find it confusing to have so many new tabs appear int heir browser and lose track of where they were previously.
