Has anyone experienced the discussion forum shutting down unexpectedly?

A student was composing a discussion post in the forum, and the discussion page shut down unexpectedly. She was redirected to the homepage of her course, and she lost the post she had started. Has anyone experienced this and were you able to discover the cause and solution? I'm thinking it may be due to internet connection or the browser.

the issue does look like related to the page timeout; the page is not normally supposed to close by itself, but in case of unstable Internet connection, it can happen - and then the user is indeed redirected to the discussion's home page,
