Re: What are you using for course evaluations?
Overall Lansing Community College has had a better experience using Blue for course evaluations than our previous solution IDEA.
Re: "send to root"
Hi Laura,
Yes, when moving a sub-module the option Send to root means move the module to the root or first level in the TOC. Another option you can try is clicking on the Table of Contents and select the Bulk Edit. This will provide you an alternative view through which you can drag and drop the modules/sub-modules.
Hope this helps!
Re: What are you using for course evaluations?
I have a little experience with a bunch of these systems. We are currently using Explorance Blue for our course evaluations, we have used Qualtrics for some supplemental surveys, and have used the Brightspace survey tool for Faculty Development Surveys. Everything said and done we keep coming back and moving these surveys to BLUE. For the surveys using Qualtrics our Institutional and Assessment groups was sending questions for assessing things like new tools in the class and they were getting about 10% response rate. It was then decided that we would add these questions onto the course evaluation and the response rate of them went up to 35% to 40%. We also used the Brightspace tool for our Faculty Development surveys but data for those can only be pulled 1 class at a time (at least in our experience) so since our Provost decided they needed this information the decision was to have use move these into BLUE so all the data can be pulled at once and reports can be created and distributed automatically.
Overall I have found BLUE to be a very versatile tool that can handle just about anything if you are creative enough. We still do have issues with response rates but from what I have noticed from conversation with other institutions is that if you want a response rate about 40% you need to engage the faculty and have them encourage students to complete their survey. This is difficult for use since we are an online state university and can not use some of the options that are available to more traditional schools.
The automatic distribution of reports, the exporting data daily to our data warehouse, the ability to survey subgroups within courses and really the flexibility to do just about any survey with any population that is in our data source using any schedule has made it the primary tool that we use for surveys in our department.
Re: Bulk Delete Tool for content removal (not course delete)
Hello @Polly.H.484
There is a Course Reset tool that will clear all of the course components, including content, and leave the course shell empty. Effectively, this is a way of clearing out the shell in full.
Does that sounds like something that would work, or were you wanting to keep everything else in the course and only delete the content objects themselves?
Regards,
Jeffrey
Re: Bulk Delete Tool for content removal (not course delete)
Depending what role is doing this, there is a tool called Course Reset for each course shell under the Course Admin.
Re: Release Notes Updates
August 2023/20.23.8 Release Notes have been republished to include the following change:
Added on 24-August-2023 Updated the Announcements – Pin announcements to top of Announcement widget and tool pages | New release note to clarify that pinned global announcements appear before other pinned announcements. Re: Grade Export
Hi Denise,
It's likely your institution has a middleware integration/application that handles the request for grades from Brightspace and then pushes these into your Student Record System.
One place to check, as an Administrator/Super Administrator, for such an integration is in Admin tools > Manage Extensibility. Here you can see the applications that are registered/permissioned with your Brightspace environment to make API calls/request data and so forth.
If you don't see anything obvious best to open a support case with the D2L Support team who can better assist you with the request.
Hope that helps!
Re: Release Notes Updates
HI Bruce.B.64,
We reported this in our Release Quality meeting w/ Megan Walker, Judy, B, etc. two weeks ago.

Re: Inline feedback not displaying checkmarks
That's certainly a possibility. Changes can happen to a document when any software converts something from a Doc to a PDF.
I reckon this needs a bit more investigation to establish exactly what causes those particular symbols to disappear. First off, if you're an Approved Support Contact (ASC), I'd raise a support case to ask this question. To save time, include the org unit / course offering, a link to the assignment in question, and the name of the student whose submission is affected. It would also be useful to know what software they used to write the assignment. Was it in Word for Mac, or Pages, for instance?
In the meantime, you might want to use a test account on your site to try and replicate it. If you create a word doc with those symbols, does the same thing happen? How about if you do so from a Mac?
Hope that helps.
Re: Update paging options in quizzes to 1 question per page
Unfortunately, to my knowledge, page breaks values can't be updated programmatically by API. My best idea to do this is to suggest using some sort of GUI automation tool like Selenium or Power Automate Desktop.
If it helps, the URL to open the quiz editing page/interface is consistent:
https://[URL]/d2l/lms/quizzing/admin/modify/quiz_newedit_properties.d2l?qi=[QuizID]&ou=[OrgUnitID]
where
[URL] = the site URL
[QuizID] = the quiz object id, unique identifier for each quiz
[OrgUnitID] = a course identifier
If needed, you can inform building a list of quizzes to update for the GUI automation tool to loop through by using Data Hub; there's a Quiz Objects Data Set that includes an OrgUnitID field, a QuizID field, and a PagingTypeId field showing (to a degree 😶) how many pages the quiz has — any value other than "1" (including Null) might present the quiz as a candidate for updating.
I'll mention, finally, that while it's nifty that these URLs in are consistent, they shouldn't be considered predictable. D2L might update them over time as Brightspace is updated. But for short-term tasks like this, we should good.
