Re: Brightspace datasets tool not available?
Hello @Maureen.B.923
Thank you for contacting us via Brightspace Community!
After detailed investigation results indicate that It is expected to not have the Brightspace Dataset available in the test site.
In case you would like to have it enabled, your CSM/TAM would need to send a request which will be reviewed and put to approval by the responsible team. May I request you to contact your CSM/TAM for further details?
Kind Regards,
Prithvi

Re: Did you employ the Customer Service Chatbot? How did it go/is it going?
We meet monthly with the EUS team to continue to build and strengthen our Virtual Assistant. Each month we are adding new options. Satisfaction continues to be in the mid to high 90's. Since we do not have an on campus 24/7 support desk, this is a game changer for many of our students and faculty. At the start of a new semester the number of calls is high, but levels off during the semester.

Re: Did you employ the Customer Service Chatbot? How did it go/is it going?
Good morning John,
Angelo here from Rosalind Franklin University, I’m the lead LMS admin for our university and worked closely with D2L on our Virtual Assistant release. We rolled out Virtual Assistant in late 2022, it’s been a tool that we rely on for student & faculty support since.
Because we advertise our IT and instructional design support heavily to our internal staff and faculty, we decided to make our preconfigured queries student focused. These preconfigured options include a description and links to our academic services, student counseling services, and our IT helpdesk for student applications. With these topics covered, it ensures that our students are asking the Virtual Assistant only Brightspace related questions, which the tool is more than capable of handling.
Depending on your faculty and staff’s familiarity with your Brightspace support services, you may decide to go another route with the preconfigured options.
Once we were ready to release Virtual Assistant, we sent an email to the entire university to let them know about the tool and what it is used for. We felt that it was important to include faculty and staff in this announcement because, not only can they also utilize Virtual Assistant for their questions, but they can also help direct students to the tool for immediate Brightspace related help.
If you use multiple LMS applications at your university, you may decide to do a more targeted advertisement of Virtual Assistant.
The feedback from our communities has been very positive, primarily from new students who have never used Brightspace. From a support perspective, it brings us comfort knowing that students have an additional venue to seek Brightspace help outside of our office hours.
I hope this perspective is helpful for your release, if you have any other questions don't hesitate to reach out. 😁
Re: Seeing stats before publishing grades
If you have permission to see statistics in quizzes, then you will see a Statistics tab when you enter Quizzes. From there, you can select the quiz and drill down to the Question Stats. If you're not seeing this, then ask your administrator to give your role the See Stats for Any Quiz permission.
How to overwrite file when updating topic file
Our course team has a custom app that generates pages from template files and then creates corresponding modules and topics within a course in D2L. This is great for new courses we launch as course designers can play around with the structure of the course in the place we track video and other page information.
A new feature I am looking to build is the ability to update pages. This would be beneficial for future iterations of an existing course as videos, resources, or other page content may change moving forward. The PUT /topic/(topicId)/file API looks promising for this use case. Using it, I am able to update the topic contents as intended.
However, on the backend in the “Manage Files” section of the course, if the file is named the same, it will create a copy each time this API is called (e.g. Page, Page - Copy, Page - Copy (1), Page - Copy (2), etc.). This is explained in the API documentation with the note that “the existing content topic file will not be removed by this action”.
Is there a parameter, or different API route, I can use to overwrite the existing file in place? When creating the topic with POST /modules/(moduleId)/structure/, the default behavior appears to be to overwrite an existing file with the same name (with a parameter renameFileIfExists that can be set to true to not overwrite the file; much like the PUT method). Is this feature available for the PUT method (e.g. renameFileIfExists=false)?
Re: One to many course sync
@Heather.K.449 Thanks for your reply! I have gone over the D2L api and could not find anything in the course or exam endpoints that would indicate a parent to child relationship. It is possible to call the Canvas api with the parent course id and get a list of associated child course id's. We use this feature to sync further changes down to the child exams within Canvas. Looking for something similar within D2L but It would seem that it does not currently exist or it's on a one to one basis (copy/import).
Re: Would you have a list of accessible Creator+ Elements and Practice features?
Hey Noelle,
Thanks for reaching out!
This particular error is only invoked in Preview mode, rather than in the Learner-facing view. This means that learners will not encounter this error when going through the content.
All Creator+ Elements and Practices are accessible. We performed multiple rounds of accessibility testing when building these and can confirm that they adhere to accessibility standards.
For more Creator+ information and discussions, I'd encourage you to join our Creator+ Community group. It's a great space to ask Creator+-related questions and get timely information about new features.
Thank you, let me know if you have any other questions for me!
