At D2L, we are dedicated to continuous innovation and providing the best learning solutions to our customers. With this in mind, we have decided to retire the legacy App Finder and replace it with IntegrationHub. As of August 31, 2023, App Finder will no longer be supported and all references to App Finder will be removed from the Brightspace Community documentation. The move to IntegrationHub greatly improves the extensibility of our platform and provides better LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability) 1.3 integration for future growth.
What is App Finder?
App Finder is an integrated app catalog built on LTI 1.1 that enables Brightspace users to discover partner solutions. It has been available since 2015. Users can find apps by keyword search, browsing app categories or viewing all apps by segment (for example, K-12, Higher Ed, or Enterprise). However, due to its limited functionality, and to incorporate the latest security and authentication mechanism of LTI 1.3, we have decided to discontinue its support and replace it with the more advanced IntegrationHub.
What are we replacing it with?
D2L's IntegrationHub, launching May 2023, replaces the legacy App Finder. IntegrationHub is a centralized platform designed to simplify the process of finding and selecting integrated technologies and solutions that matter most to Brightspace users. With a focus on usability, experience, and improved functionality, IntegrationHub offers an intuitive search system, visually appealing design, and enhanced filtering options for regions, language, segment, and other criteria, making it easier to find the right integrations to meet any need. IntegrationHub offers a comprehensive and extensive list of D2L's integrated technologies, including accessibility tools, student information systems, secure proctoring assessment platforms, and more.
The new IntegrationHub also provides developer resources, opportunities to learn from partners’ and D2L's events, and important announcements. IntegrationHub is built on LTI 1.3, which allows for better performance than App Finder.
Why Are We Making This End-of-Life Decision?
We want to define and establish a directory that highlights our ecosystem, which focuses on usability, experience, and improves participation by our current partners and non-partner integrators. App Finder had mixed reviews and confused administrators about who could use it and why. Overall, IntegrationHub offers a more user-friendly and comprehensive solution that aligns better with our goal of making integrated technologies and solutions more accessible and easier to use for our clients. Due to its limited functionality and low usage, the decision was made to replace App Finder.
What does this mean to me?
App Finder LTI 1.1 integration will be retired after August 31st, 2023. The website will redirect to IntegrationHub starting May 2023, before being permanently decommissioned. The LTI 1.1 integration links will also stop functioning after the end of August. We encourage App Finder users to begin transitioning to IntegrationHub as soon as possible to take advantage of its improved features and benefits.
If you are using the LTI launch for App Finder, please set up IntegrationHub.
What is the Impact and Transition Plan for Active Clients?
