Template path in NCE

Hi,
We're moving from the Classic experience to the NCE shortly.
Currently we rely on using the Template Path option in the Display Settings (see
). This provides the option to limit the templates visible to those we've provided in the File Store and can be conveniently used from the Template dropdown menu in the editor.
Does the NCE support this "local level" of templating via the file store without having to manually browse through it each time to find the template?
Thanks,
Bjorn

Hi Bjorn,
Thanks for reaching out to us!
Please know that currently in the New Content Experience, you can’t set the default template path right from the content settings. However, if you copy that template path example : /shared/LCS_HTML_Templates/ and go search in the config variable browser for d2l.Tools.Content.TemplatePath, you can set them for individual Org units to pull templates from that location.
The below community articles might be helpful:
I hope this helps!

Thank you Mehak.
So, just to clarify, it's possible to set d2l.Tools.Content.TemplatePath to point at a location within the OrgUnit file store? So for example, we might have orgunit/content/templates available for individual courses to place their own templates in?

Hello @Bjorn.L.964 ,
Yes, that’s correct! You can configure d2l.Tools.Content.TemplatePath to point to a location within the OrgUnit file store. Once you've copied the template path, you can search for d2l.Tools.Content.TemplatePath in the config variable browser. From there, you can set it for individual Org Units to pull templates from the specified location.

Thank you Bharti. On a similar note, is it possible to set the default path for subunits in the File Store? At the moment, we can choose the "Set Default Path" option for the subunit in Classic. Where would this option be in the NCE?

Hello @Bjorn.L.964
Thank you for reaching out. I understand your query regarding setting a default path for course units while using NCE.
By default, all uploaded course files are stored in the Manage Files area of the course. However, if you're looking for functionality similar to Classic Content, where you could manually set a default path for specific course sub-units,
I would recommend submitting a PIE (Product Idea Exchange) item to suggest this enhancement for NCE.

Okay. This might be pretty problematic for us. If we use the Copy Components Tool to copy content from one course to another, what would happen if there are two different pieces of content with the same name in the File Store? Does one file simply overwrite another or are they renamed or similar?
Thanks.

Hello @Bjorn.L.964
This behavior has remained unchanged regardless of the experience being used and is also documented in the tool's Documentation: Concerns when copying course componentsThe only components you might overwrite are course files. Course files are overwritten if one of the files being copied has the same name as an existing file. No other components are overwritten.
However, if using the Import Course Package option instead of the Copy, there is an option in the "Advanced options" when an existing file is encountered to Overwrite / Do not overwrite the existing file. You have also the option to import the file to a different path folder location, and if just using the Do not overwrite option, the file under Manage Files will not be overwritten.
