When I created my first Brightspace quiz with bonus questions, some students earned scores above the maximum (e.g., 16/10), but the linked grade item capped every grade at 10 because Can Exceed had not been enabled on the grade item.

As a new user, it never occurred to me that marking a quiz question as Bonus was not sufficient. I had to:

Create the bonus question in the quiz.
Locate the linked grade item in the gradebook.
Enable Can Exceed.
If I forgot, update the setting and re-export the quiz grades to the gradebook.

This requires instructors to express the same intent twice.

I suggest one of the following:

Best: If a quiz contains bonus questions, automatically enable Can Exceed on the associated grade item.
Good: When a bonus question is added, prompt the instructor to enable Can Exceed.
At minimum: Move the Can Exceed option into the quiz editor so it is configured where bonus questions are created.

The current workflow is unintuitive and easy to miss, especially for new instructors.

What you're describing - where enabling Bonus on a quiz question doesn't automatically enable Can Exceed on the linked grade item - is a known usability gap. Since this is a product improvement request rather than a bug, the best path forward is to submit it directly to D2L's product team via a PIE (Product Idea Exchange) item or upvoting one that fits your needs and your use case.

Hey, Ashwin. Thanks for the reply—I appreciate it. I may be misunderstanding how the Brightspace Community is organized. I thought this post was being submitted as a product suggestion. Is the Brightspace Community discussion forum separate from the Product Idea Exchange? If so, I'd be happy to repost it there. I just wasn't aware they were different systems.

Hi, Ashwin. Thanks again for pointing me with your link. Is that link where I can submit a product improvement request? Unfortunately, I haven't been able to submit the suggestion because I'm running into what appears to be an account issue.

The registration page tells me my email address is already associated with an account, but when I request a password reset, I receive an email stating that I'm not registered in the system. I've attached screenshots of both messages. Could you point me toward the appropriate contact to resolve the account issue?
