A “reveal interaction” is a simple but impactful learning design tool. It gives learners a question or prompt and asks them to reveal the answer by clicking a button. It engages your learners without the pressure of a formal assessment.
For example, a typical reveal interaction may look like this:
Creator+ offers two reveal interactions: The Creator+ Element Click and Reveal, and the H5P interactive Guess the Answer. Use this post to learn more about each offering.
Creator+ Click and Reveal
A Click and Reveal is one of the Creator+ Elements. It displays a text prompt and a clickable button. The intention is to ask the learner a question in the text prompt and then have them select the answer to reveal the intended answer.
With its subtle border, a Click and Reveal looks very similar to the Creator+ Callout. Designers have the option to add a question mark icon for added flair.
Here is an image of a Creator+ Click and Reveal as it would appear in a Brightspace page.
Choose Creator+ Click and Reveal if …
You want a seamless visual experience: The Creator+ Click and Reveal was made for Brightspace. It follows Brightspace design conventions and will instantly load on any content page.
- You want to display media in your answer: The revealed answer can display text, images, or embedded videos. It can be a great place to contain a video without embedding it on your content page.
H5P Guess the Answer
Like its Creator+ counterpart, the H5P Guess the Answer includes a text prompt and a solution button. Unlike Click and Reveal, authors can embed media in the prompt itself. You can get creative by incorporating an image or video into your design.
You can see Guess the Answer in the introduction to this post. Here is another example:
Choose the H5P Guess the Answer if…
- You want a multimedia experience: Guess the Answer has a dedicated space for images or videos in the text prompt. You can embed media and ask learners to directly respond to it. Click and Reveal does not have this capability.
- You want to easily reuse your interactive easily: As with any H5P interactive, a Guess the Answer is saved into H5P’s content management system. You can easily reuse it across courses and share editing privileges with others.
Summary
H5P Guess the Answer and Creator+ Click and Reveal are great tools for any learning project. With Guess the Answer, you receive the portability that H5P is known for, while Click and Reveal offers a seamless visual experience in Brightspace.
Deciding between these two tools depends on how you’d like to use media in your design:
- If you want to use media in your prompt, opt for a H5P Guess the Answer.
