Branching Scenario: 3 Examples to Spark Your Creativity
H5P’s Branching Scenario is a fantastic way to introduce immersive learning to your Brightspace course. This tool has been a favourite amongst designers for years, and it’s now available to All-New Creator+ users right in Brightspace!
Branching Scenario is unlike any other H5P interactive. It includes a powerful editing platform that can create complex self-directed learning experiences. It can be used for applying knowledge to a situation or as a mini module for displaying content.
To welcome Branching Scenario to the All-New Creator+, we wanted to showcase a few examples. Hopefully these interactives inspire your own course design!
Situational assessment
As the name implies, Branching Scenarios are commonly used to apply learning goals to a scenario. It challenges learners to apply what they’ve learned to a “real-world” situation.
Just as importantly, Branching Scenarios can help learners understand the consequences of making mistakes so they can avoid similar errors in real life.
The following Branching Scenario teaches AI ethics through mock conversation with a chatbot. Try it out yourself, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes!
Dynamic presentations
When used with H5P Course Presentation, Branching Scenario can create dynamic and visually appealing content. Designers can design their own slide show and add branches that take learners along unique paths.
The following is an example of a Branching Scenario applied to an art history course.
Exceptional immersion
And just for fun, check out this award-winning Branching Scenario from the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing at Ryerson University. This example uses custom videos and graphics to create a sense of immersion.
It’s a terrific way to assess health care workers in a mock scenario so they can be prepared in the real-world.
The above Branching Scenario was created by professors from: Ryerson University Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing, Centennial College, and George Brown College Sally Horsfall Eaton School of Nursing.
