Issues with Cursor within D2L

This is such a weird problem, but when I insert feedback within the assignment itself by adding a comment, the cursor moves back to the beginning of the sentence. For example, if I start typing "Missing…," as soon as I type the "M," before I move on to the "i," the cursor moves back to the space before "M." I don't even know if I am explaining it correctly. Is anyone else having this problem? It's happening to me on multiple computers, so I know it's a me problem or a D2L and me problem.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @Jennifer.W.799, thank you for reaching out to the Brightspace Community!

This issue is in our Known Issues List, and as a workaround, when you open the note annotations, wait 2-3s before you begin typing.

Feel free to reach out again if you encounter any difficulties!

  • Hello Jennifer,

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. I understand that the cursor behaviour is causing difficulties when providing feedback within the assignment comment section in D2L. Based on similar cases and the behaviour you've described, this issue could be rooted in specific browser configurations or temporary data conflicts. Here are some technical steps to troubleshoot and address this:

    1. Clear Browser Cache and Cookies: Sometimes, cached data from previous sessions can cause unpredictable behaviour in web applications like D2L. Clearing your cache may reset any stored data that could be interfering with the text input functionality.
    2. Disable Browser Extensions or Add-ons: Extensions, especially those related to text input or autocomplete functions, can sometimes conflict with D2L’s HTML editor. Try disabling these extensions temporarily to check if the behaviour persists.
    3. Test in Incognito/Private Mode: Using an incognito or private browsing window can bypass some of your standard browser settings and extensions. This step can help determine if an extension or specific setting is impacting the functionality.
    4. Ensure Browser Compatibility: Verify that you’re using a supported and up-to-date browser version. D2L is optimized for certain browsers (such as Chrome, Firefox, and Edge), and compatibility issues may occur on outdated versions.
    5. Switch Browsers: If possible, test this behaviour in an alternate browser. D2L’s HTML editor sometimes behaves differently across various browsers, and testing in another browser may help us isolate the issue.
    6. Disable Text Prediction (if applicable): If your operating system or browser has a text prediction or autocorrect feature enabled, consider turning it off to see if that improves the behaviour. Some users have reported issues with cursor positioning when predictive text is enabled.

Please let us know if these steps help or if the behaviour persists. If the issue continues, providing additional details—such as the specific browser and version used, any text editor settings, and the exact circumstances when the issue arises—can assist us in recreating the problem on our end.

    Best regards,
    Miguel
