Is there a way to add bonus points directly to a rubric?

I am able to find many different articles about adding bonus points to a grade, but I am not sure if there is a way to establish bonus points into a rubric's grading criteria so that the total points earned can exceed point total.

The reason you are not having trouble finding information on this topic as it relates to grade items — and conversely no information on rubrics — is because it is possible using the former but not the latter.
As a next step, I'd recommend visiting the Product Ideas Exchange (PIE) and either logging a new feature request, or upvoting an existing request.
